Al Khafji Joint Operations (KJO)
On April 1, 2000 and after Aramco Gulf Operations (AGOC) commenced its activities and took over the Saudi Government's share in the divided zone and Arabian Oil Company (AOC) which represented Kuwait government side, carry out Joint Operations in accordance with a Joint Petroleum Production Operations Agreement(JPPOA) internally known as Khafji Joint Operations (KJO).
Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical started the Petro Rabigh Project with the aim of building integrated oil refining and petrochemical operations by way of upgrading Saudi Aramco’s oil refinery and constructing a new petrochemical complex. A joint venture agreement was signed between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical in August 2005 and Petro Rabigh was established, an equally owned joint venture to run the Rabigh complex, in September of the same year.
Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company (SASREF)
The Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company SASREF is at the very heart of Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical production. It is recognized as an industry innovator and was specifically designed as an export refinery. In the formation agreement, Saudi Aramco and Shell Saudi Arabia Refining Ltd. Shares fifty percent each on the holdings.
In 1981, Pertomin and Shell signed a joint agreement to establish a refinery complex. Construction of the refinery started in 1982 with inauguration on the 23rd of December 1986. SASREF was envisioned as one of the most modern refineries in the world debottlenecking from 250,000 to 305,000 barrels per day.
SAMREF is a complex refinery which was formed for the development, construction, ownership and operation of crude oil refining facilities in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. Following the construction and start-up of the facilities, it commenced operations on November 15, 1984.
